Tattling is for the weekend!

Tattling is for the weekends!

Tattling in Kindergarten is second nature for some children…. There is the, “He took my pencil.” “She said, I’m rude.” “I was here first.” And the list goes on and on and on…. One day, the tattling was over kill!
I told the children, “Alright, Mrs. Tennison only listens to tattling on Saturday and Sundays!” Believe me… it was great! Not one more tattle the rest of the afternoon.

The next day a child walked up to me and said, “I know it’s not Saturday... but...

Out of the mouths of babes!

  1. Did my niece ever tattle on me! She was about 5 years old in her kindergarten class at Greenhill and had invited me to Special Friends Day. She announced to the whole class that her Aunt Pernie had a 'jiggly-like-jello' bottom. You can imagine the squeals of glee and delight that came from her classmates. I on the other hand, probably resembled Jello even more that day -- the Cherry Red kind.

  2. I will have to remember, "No tattling except on Saturday and Sunday." As fourth graders they don't tattle as much, but it does get tiresome. I had a great student teacher who created a "tattle box" for me. If they really had to tattle about something, they had to write it down and place it in the box. Most of the time the students didn't want to bother writing it down.

  3. That is cute! I teach high school and they still tattle...just not as often! And I am also lucky to hear the 'drama' between cheerleaders which is just one big tattle. :)

  4. I have a friend who requires that her students write down their "tattle-tale" and place it in the tattling box. She and the class mascot (a hamster) then read the tattle-tales during her conference time and recess time. If the two of them (she and the hamster) deem the tattle as one that needs to be dealt with, then the teacher addresses it with the appropriate students. Otherwise, the tattle tale is discarded and put to rest because the student had an opportunity to tattle and the teacher did not have to deal with the drama associated with it or the child who wished to tattle. I thought that it was a pretty great idea.
